Swinging Clothing at the Complex

For the second day of the final phase, we here bring you the latest news on the spot. We pay a visit to the Area A which mainly shows the fashion clothing. Due to the downward of the clothing export, most of the garment exhibitors have little visitors with their poor decoration of the booths.

There are a few exhibitors who decorate their booths as if you were shopping in the metropolitan center. From the effects of the lights to the whole disposition, some booths make you enjoyable to wander which there are no trace of business until you see the tags for the clothing ingredients.

It is not the first time for hiring foreign models to display the clothing. And now the master behind the scene also comes out for face to face communication with the clients as well as sharing ideas with other professionals. We see several foreign designers from the Europe dealing with shirts and suits. When it comes to the same areas of both the designers and the buyers, the communication becomes more fluent than just with the salesmen.

For displaying the clothes, there seems too boring for hanging up high both the materials and the readymade clothes no matter what styles the booths’ decoration are. One supplier hang the shirts just by one side of the shoulder and one supplier put its whole booth into a jeans world with all the salesmen wearing denim clothing. Actually this supplier is dealing on the denim material rather than the ready-made clothes. Maybe they should learn from the peers to hire foreign models to display the clothes on the spot or maybe presenting other shapes of products out of the denim clothes.

Canton Fair waits for Belt and Road Boost

Organizers of the China Import and Export Fair are pinning high hopes on buyers from countries and regions along the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road to provide a much-needed impetus for transactions amid sluggish foreign trade prospects.

The flagship event, which is held twice a year and also known as the Canton Fair, is considered an important barometer of China’s future trade activity.

Buyers from countries and regions along the Belt and Road routes will account for more than half of registered overseas participants at the fair, which will open on Oct 15 in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province.

“A growing number of buyers from countries and regions along the Belt and Road have expressed interest in the fair, representing new trade opportunities amid export challenges,” says Xu Bing, a spokesman for the event.

The Belt and Road Initiative, proposed by President Xi Jinping in 2013, seeks to enhance regional connectivity and prosperity along the ancient trade routes.

“We have given priority to companies from the Belt and Road countries and regions in our promotional campaigns. Business delegations have already been sent to European countries like Italy, Germany and France, to attract participants to the event,” says Xu.

“We have also, for the first time, invited Australian enterprises to the event. Buyers from countries along the routes such as Ukraine and Jordan are also making their debut at the fair.”

More than 350 companies from 28 countries along the Belt and Road routes are participating, he says.

“Responses from traditional foreign countries to our invitation have not been enthusiastic this year due to the growing external challenges.”

China’s exports shrank by 1.8 percent to 10.24 trillion yuan ($1.62 trillion) during the first three quarters of the year, and fell by 1.1 percent to 1.3 trillion yuan in September, according to the General Administration of Customs.

“Rising labor costs and currency swings are exerting downward pressure on China’s exports. Our conventional advantages are disappearing and some manufacturing facilities are being relocated to other nations. These are some of the challenges that we are facing in attracting overseas enterprises to the fair,” Xu says.

However, customs authorities have said that trade prospects will remain favorable during the fourth quarter as the monthly decline in exports has been narrowing steadily during the past few months. The 1.1 percent fall in exports during September is commendable when compared with the 6.1 percent fall in August and the 9.5 percent decline in July.

Trade volume realized at the fair has been dropping since 2008. The volume during the spring session this year was about $28 billion, down 9.6 percent from the same period a year ago.

“However, trade fairs are becoming more sophisticated and are not just a place for buying and selling products. We are looking to make the Canton Fair an inclusive platform for exchanging information, expanding business network, and getting to know potential customers,” Xu says.

Exporters in the Pearl River Delta region, a major manufacturing and trade hub in South China, have already introduced measures to tap the growing markets along the Belt and Road routes.

Yang Shan, general manager of Shenzhen Skymen Cleaning Equipment Co, says the company would set up offices in Australia to better cater to market demand.

“Demand from traditional buyers such as those in Europe declined significantly in the third quarter. We are making efforts to develop specified products to meet the growing demand from countries like Australia,” says Yang.

The Challenges and Opportunities China Apparel Industry Meets in 2015

Now that China has the largest population in the world, china is definitely the largest apparel consumption country as well as the largest manufacturing country. The overall development of China’s apparel industry is unbalanced due to the unbalanced development of different areas. In all, apparel industry has developed much better in coastal areas that in middle and West areas of China. Though apparel enterprises’ brand conscience has been increasing these years, China apparel brand trademarks and authentic international clothes brand are scarce.

Among apparel categories, men’s clothes and down jacket brands are relatively more mature with stronger international power than others, which has many public-listed companies standing out in the world both in scale and competitive power. Meanwhile, other markets such as women’s fashion, kids’ clothes and pajamas are less developed with few leading brands. China is still the big apparel country of “Made in China” but not “Created in China”. We are short of innovative self-design style. However, China apparel market is full of challenges and opportunities.

Challenge 1: Fashion design is a weakness of China apparel enterprises. China’s fashion design level lags far behind the international level and is short of world famous fashion designers.  Most enterprises rely on copying and duplicating others’ design, which is the biggest setback to form individual product style. Thus a perfect system of fashion designer training is urgently demanding. Instead, many talented designers get more used to self-established brand or starting their own business by setting up designing office than working for the enterprises, which hinders China’s fashion design to improve. No wonder that there is no shadow of China’s designer appearing in international mainstream fashion week.

Challenge 2: Fabric research and development capability in China apparel enterprises is inadequate. Fabric is the key of clothes products. So far, compared with foreign fabric suppliers, china fabric suppliers are lack of fabric research and development capability and high-quality fabric which is now relying mostly on import. It directly restricts the development of the whole China apparel industry.

China is a big apparel country not a strong apparel country, and is on the early stage of apparel brand establishment with many difficulties such as the imperfect equipment in different sides, shortness of operational labors and relatively weak brand marketing ability. There are only two China apparel brands that have entered Top 100 China Brands. In China, the premise of brand strategy transformation in apparel industry should be specific operational design. Without operational design, enterprises can only produce low-price products; and the result will be embarrassing with wrong strategical design road. Moreover, there is another influential factor of China apparel brand, that is, to change the overall international image of China’s textile and garment industry. China’s apparel brand dream will never come true if China’s apparel industry is still with low cost as its major international image in the international market. However, after analyzing the challenges of China apparel industry, we shouldn’t neglect the absolute opportunities.

Opportunities: As we all know, China enjoys population advantage in the world, which means the demanding for apparel is very large. At present, though we can’t compete for quality of apparel, we can compete for quantity. Furthermore, China’s large export turnover definitely creates more opportunities for China apparel industry, because the relatively low-price products due to lower technology are quite popular in many countries. Large output of cotton and silk in China is another absolute opportunity. China’s apparel industry will stride forward quickly if the deep processing of these fabrics is undertaken.

The future of China’s apparel industry is bright. After reform and opening-up in China, apparel industry has developed rapidly and made great contribution on national economy. As the rapid development of economy and the abrupt rise of second and third line cities, a more spacious potential market will be explored. Meanwhile, the market environment of apparel industry will be improved as consumers’ consuming conception is becoming more and more mature and sensible.

In sum, since 2015, the whole development of apparel industry is stable and goes moderate. It is at the critical point of industry structure accelerating transformation and upgrading. Under the situation of unsteady external demand, it will bring new increasing dynamic by catching the transformation opportunity of Internet Plus and further expanding the internal demand consumption as the key of industry development.
